Michael Sparks

Community Life Pastor

Michael was born in Fort Valley, Georgia, home of the best peaches and the famous Blue Bird bus factory. He considers himself privileged to have learned his work ethic from the wonderful people in both industries there.

Although raised in a Christian home and introduced to Christ at an early age, the teenage years were a frantic struggle trying to hold a spiritual life together. Much of that struggle was due to a wrong view of God. “I found myself in a constant battle to win God’s favor,” Michael explained. It was during an Indian Springs camp meeting that the real spiritual journey began. The Prayer to receive Christ through repentance started a relationship of intimacy over activity. Michael is convinced that discipleship is what liberated his walk with Christ. “It was Godly men who took a personal interest in my life during my college days at Asbury University and on into young adulthood that helped me see God and myself in the proper light. Living victoriously in the Gospel required that I understand the depths of sin from which I had come. The temptation of comparing myself to others waned and the process of looking at myself through God’s eyes and judging myself by his standard began.”

After playing basketball overseas with Sports Ambassadors in 1979, Michael’s eyes were opened to the amazing influence of faith through sports. After college Michael served three years in youth ministries then coached high school basketball for two years. During his coaching tenure, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes gave Sparks the opportunity to pioneer and develop the West Tennessee area.

After 28 years of serving FCA, he came to Fellowship Bible Church as Pastor of Community Life in 2012. Michael is married to Kim and they have a blended family of six children and two grandsons.
